The Wine

A blend of Portuguese varietals that were brought back to life by the current generation of the Tenreiro family. This red wine is a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional and Petit Verdot. Sixty percent was destemmed, 40% whole-cluster fermented in tank before spending 4 months in clay amphorae called “talha”, each holding 140 liters (~187 bottles).

A deeply colored red wine with elegant, intense aromas of exotic spices and earth, with notes of black pepper, cinnamon, black cherry, clay and tobacco. The palate brings vegetative notes, not in an under-ripe way but rather fresh and ripe from a summer garden. A long finish reflecting the enticing aromatics of the wine.

The Winery

A generation or two ago, way back in the 1950s, the Tenreiro family pulled out the last of the family vines from their property in the Ponte de Sor region of Portugal. Fast-forward 60 years, and the current generation has replanted to native varietals, integrated modern winemaking techniques with the best of the ancient traditions, and contributed to the wine world's discovery of and appreciation for Portuguese still wines.
