The Wine

Monterey County's Santa Lucia Highlands is home to some of our state's best-known Pinots and Chards. But it's such a large area, that sub-regions are beginning to emerge, with the Northern-most area being cooler, and thus producing more elegant, fine-toothed wines such as this one. Though it still has the dark fruits typical of the SLH, it exemplifies why one of Ed's pinots was the favorite at September's virtual tasting.

Look for rose petals, red fruits (cranberry and mulberry) earth and finishes with pie spices and darker balsamic notes.

The Winery

An urban winery, this prestigious producer recently moved from a down-and-dirty bayside area to an only slightly-dirty urban area. It is not the scenic setting most wineries enjoy, a significant handicap when it comes to hosting the public and selling wine over a tasting bar. So the success of Ed's wines is due solely to their quality. Working with carefully selected vineyards growing Pinot, Chardonnay and Syrah, most of these wines sell direct to consumers via allocation.
