The Wine

The first thing you'll note about the wine is the packaging. Wrapped in a slightly waxy paper, the creative couple behind this brilliant wine are depicted in the format of an illustrated novel. And the label is identical to the other three wines from the other three soil types, but for the check mark in the box "Clay", to indicate the source. (By the way, the other three are Slate (Licorella), Limestone and Sand).

Just as with its packaging, the wine also makes a bold statement, with enticing aromas that hint at a walk in a forest of fir and pine trees. Drink now or hold for up to 7 years.

The Winery

Few American wine lovers know more than one or two Spanish wine regions. But lovers of big, bold reds should make a point of buying a few of the pricey wines from Priorat, as well as the more affordable wines of the surrounding region - Montsant - which surrounds the Priorat region like a donut. This wine was produced at the most famous co-op in Monsant, despite being in a town of just 400. Monsant is a beautiful agrigultural region, with 200+ year-old olive trees as a key feature. If you've ever gone on a vacation and thought "We could buy a place here and settle down very easily", Monsant is such a place.
