Tasting Notes
Aromas of dark raspberries, blood-red plums, freshly over-turned earth and wild flowers. The palate echoes all these aromatic experiences, and also introduces a mineral edge. Despite it's elegant body and 13.6% alcohol, the wine may be a bit austere in its early years. I highly encourage you to put a few bottles down and try them every six months - it will evolve beautifully for many years to come, if I'm not mistaken. But until then, decant this wine for at least an hour before pouring.
Recommended Pairing: Roast duck or other favorite poultry, accompanied by wild mushroom polenta, all drizzled with a Pinot Noir-huckelberry reduction sauce.
Background
Jason Drew began his winery in California's Central Coast, which is also where I began this wine club. In many ways, featuring this wine is like coming back home for me, even though both Jason and I have moved our operations to Northern California. Most of his wines are now crafted with fruit from Mendocino's famed Anderson Valley and surrounding environs. And when I say "crafted", I mean micro quantities, such as with this wine, which only fills a scant 370 cases. If you plan to buy some, do it soon!
Cheers!
