Vineyard History First planted in 1973, you'll find Poseidon's Vineyard at the northern edge of the San Francisco Bay, where the Napa river actually tastes salty during high tides. It was this proximity to the ocean that inspired the vineyard's name, Poseidon, the God of Water. Perhaps lesser known is Poseidon's secondary domain over earthquakes, which created the uplifted Mayacamas Range, the source of the soils for this vineyard.
The land that now includes Poseidon's Vineyard was among the first cultivated land in Napa Valley. First used by the Spanish missionaries from the Sonoma Mission for livestock, the land was quickly put to productive use by settlers after the Gold Rush.
Tasting Notes Much lighter in body and color than our pinots from the Central Coast, with more pronounced tart cherry notes. Sweet spices complement its red fruit character - think clove and cinnamon spicing up a bowl of black cherries and wild strawberries. But there's also a touch of loamy earth and mint. If you can resist its enticing rose petal aromas and tart pomegranate/ cranberry/ cherry flavors, than you have more willpower than I. Good on ya.
