The Wine

Radio-Coteau is known for single-vineyard wines from estate vineyards such as Lemorel, located in the Sonoma Coast appellation. This wine enjoys great critical acclaim vintage after vintage, and typically showcases intense aromatics, structure and fruit.

The Winery

In 2002, I started as a marketing consultant at Bonny Doon Vineyard, shortly after a guy named Eric Sussman had left to start a winery he called Radio-Coteau. To say they've done quite well is an understatement - they specialize in wines from cool-climate coastal vineyards in Sonoma County and Anderson Valley.

Located in 'hippietown-turned-hipsterville' Sebastopol, the winery includes an estate vineyard in the hills above Occidental in the Sonoma Coast AVA. The name literally translates as 'broadcasting from the hillside', but that buries the true meaning of the term in its native Northern Rhone, where it colloquially refers to "word of mouth" - a reference to how this wine has achieved its success (although much of the word of mouth is from famous wine reviewers, so there's that...). It is an expression proprietor Eric Sussman first heard while working in Burgundy. He has also worked in Pauillac, Washington and at Bonny Doon in California.

Sussman produces wine from organic and biodynamically grown fruit from some 15 growers.
