The Wine

Fresh citrus notes compliment the wine's natural limestone complexity. This wine is easy to sip, but also pairs well with foods. I like the contrast this wine provides rich foods - it's no accident it works well with German or Austrian dishes, as they have a dominant influence on the foods of Alto Adige, not surprising, given the winery is a stone's throw from their borders. Well, you'd have to have a helluvan arm to throw a stone that far, but you get the idea. Aromas and flavors of pear, stone fruits, mango and white flowers float on top of a zesty-crisp foundation. Delicious, my Pinot Grigio of the year.

The Region

The beauty Alto Adige (AHH dee jhay) is breathtaking, bordered as it is by mountains made up of limestone that almost look like thick whipped cream in the middle of a layer cake. To the east of Alto Adige is the Trentino region, influenced by the cuisine of Venice (and home to my wife's warm and wonderful family, the Maniagos!) The area is known as home to the world's best Pinot Grigios.
