The Wine

Aromas are typically repressed, as Pinot often tends to be a bit on the introverted side of wine's personality scale. But give the glass a good swirl and you'll note aromas of citrus zest, dried roses, bing cherries, Craisins and hints of fennel. On the palate, dried sage spices up the same fruit components, which lead to a finish with notable earthy/mineral notes one only finds in Pinots with more restrained fruit, like this one. 12.9% ABV. Only 175 cases produced. Drink now through 2023.

The Producer

Husband-Wife team, Drew Huffine and Emily Virgil - are the driving forces behind Trail Marker Wines. Emily was a Hollywood costume designer when she met Virgil, an event she describes as "a winemaker dressed as if he was in a lumberjack costume", only to learn that was his every-day attire. Skipping the courtship part of their story, Emily soon convinced Virgil that he could strike out from the shadows of the prestige wineries that employed him (Copain, DuMol, Kosta Brown and Tuck Beckstoffer...) "no kids, no mortgage, let's do it!" she argued. And Trail Maker Wines was born.

Virgil's winemaking style favors high acid/low alcohol wines, well-balanced expressions of the cool climate vineyards from which they choose to source their grapes.
