The Wine

A field blend of four Portugese grapes - Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (that’s Tempranillo in Spain!), Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional. Fermented in stainless steel, resulting in soft tannins and juicy, bright red fruits.

Food Pairings

This medium-bodied wine pairs well with grilled anything, hard cheeses, or anything with red sauce.

The Winery

Lacrau “scorpion” wines is a collaboration between Winemaker Rui Cunha and grower Gonçalo Sousa Lopes. Gonçalo began his career on his family's Vinho Verde farm making these famed white wines.

Rui traveled the world making wine at multiple properties, then returned to Portugal to join in the Douro's still wine revolution. They now collaborate on wines from the Douro when not working as consulting winemakers across Portugal.

The Douro region combines a continental climate with a mediterranean influence, allowing the grapes to develop great phenolics (nuanced fruit flavors) without losing the acidity so critical in great wines. These vineyards are mostly granitic soils and Gonçalo has chosen to dry farm them, imparting an intense and delicious minerality to the finished wine.
