The Wine

This blend of Grenache/Syrah/Mourvèdre (65/25/10) is bottled unfined and unfiltered, this wine possesses classic southern Rhône aromatics — dark, sexy berry fruit with just enough game, leather and pepper in the nose. Ripe tannins with fresh, almost crisp fruit flavors in the mouth. Complex layers of flavor supported by the underlying enticement of the "garrigue", a spicy, herby characteristic that fairly defines the wines of the Rhone. Drink now through 2025.

Produced from 50+ year-old, head-pruned vines. This style of training vines is done with no trellis wires. Instead, the vine's shoots grow up until they can no longer support their own weight, then hang down in all directions. By the middle of the growing season the vine looks something like a gumdrop or a giant umbrella whose outer edge brushes the ground.

The Winery

The winery grows 50 acres of grapes from the Vacqueyras, selling the bulk of the fruit and selecting the best for their own production. Though they grow red and white grapes, they focus on the three primary red varietals of the region:

Grenache (the chief varietal of the southern Rhône) for fruit and power
Syrah for structure and earthiness
Mourvèdre for the spicy components it adds to the finished wines.

Their traditional production methodologies include de-stemming before long, slow macerations over three weeks. After fermentation is complete, the cuvees spend two winters in both cement and ceramic-lined stainless steel tanks before blending and bottling.
