The Wine

Vibrant ruby-purple in color, classic aromas of warm red cherries, blood orange, cranberry and pomegranate fruit with hints of violet, strawberry preserves, vanilla, dried tea leaves, savory spice and dusty earth. Shows beautiful purity of red berry/ cherry fruit and medium-body carried by juicy acidity. Mouthfilling with spicy accents on a frame of very fine-grained tannins that give the wine structure and elegance.

100% Pinot Noir: Clones Calera and 943, for those of us geeky enough to know the distinct profile each brings to the glass. For the rest of us, just know I've never tasted a sub-standard pinot made from the Calera clone!

The Winery

Cochon Wines is the brainchild of Adam Webb and Mike Kuenz. Cochon (also the affectionate French word for Pig) refers here to the 300-liter French oak barrels these wines call home prior to bottling.

The punchline to winery's little joke (Cochon, or 'little piggie') becomes clear once you know that "Hogshead", or just "Hog" for short, has long been used to describe barrels of this unique shape and size. Cochon started experimenting with them back in 2004 and particularly liked the results, finding the larger barrels yielded rounder, softer textured and more elegant wines.
