The Wine

Albarino is the dominant white grape in Spain's northwestern-most region, Rias Baixas, located just North of Portugal. The area's Atlantic coastline cools the vineyards there just as Hendry's vineyards, in the southern end of Napa (closest to the Bay) are cooled by the Pacific influence. So it is no surprise that this affordable white wine is a delicious homage to the great white wines of Rias Baixas.

Albarino (Alvarinho in Portugal, which also crafts delicious wine from this grape!) is ideally suited to fruits de Mer - any of your favorite sea-dwelling dishes. But the light and crisp nature of this wine argues for those dishes that feature lemon/lime accompaniments/sauces, and/or the natural salinity of the sea. Drink now through the end of 2022. 1,780 cases produced.

The Winery

This is the first wine from Hendry that I've included in my portfolio, and I must admit its a sentimental favorite as we served Hendry wines at our wedding. They are a small-ish (103 acres of vines) family-run winery that was started over 80 years ago. Located just Northwest of the town of Napa, at the base of Mt Veeder, they were listed as one of the SF Chronicle's top 16 wineries of 2021.
