The Wine

Stunning wine at any price. But for the money? Stunning x 2! A blend of two tradidional Portuguese grapes - Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional - with a bit of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a wine that delivers more than you could ever want in an everyday red.

Like the work "Cosecha" that you see on Spanish wine labels, the term "Colheita" (roughly, "cole-YATE-ah") is the Portuguese term for vintage. So Colheita 2018 Seleccionada simply means a selection of grapes from the 2018 vintage.

Drink now through 2025.

The Winery

The Portuguese term "Alentejano" simply means the wine is "of Alentejo" - which is, arguably, Portugal's premier wine region. That they offer such premium wines at these prices is perplexing to me, but I'm not going to complain, are you?!

The Herdade is situated in the municipality of Redondo, enclosing 420 acres of total area, of which 84 are planted to vines, 233 acres of cork trees and the remainder dedicated to the breeding and conservation of endangered species such as the 'Mirandela' donkey and the 'Garrano' horses of Gerês - once valued as working animals but the machine age led to the collapse of their breeding programs and then to their near extinction.
