The Wine

In the Côtes du Rhône (CdR) area, blending is key! The traditional "GSM" blend (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre must be at least 70% of the blend) are the main stars of the wines, but they can be supported by any of 18 additional grapes making a cameo appearance. But Grenache always takes the leading role.

Vines in this sun-drenched part of Southern France grow among a mixture of wild shrubs like juniper and 'artemisia' as well as lavender and mint, along with herbs like rosemary, sage, bay and thyme. Collectively, these are referred to as "garrigue" (gare REEG), and their unique blend of aromas find their way into these uniquely delicoius wines - it is the reason why GSM blends from anywhere else on earth won't taste like a CdR.

In this wine, Clos du Caillou has showcased Grenache’s raspberry and red plum flavors. Warming but not cloying or heavy, the wines share the signature southern Rhône aromas of lavender and incense. Very old vines, bottled wthout filtration. Drink now or hold for 3-5 years.
