The Wine“The aromas are complex with pear and floral perfumes. The wine shows profound energy with citrus, fresh apricot and a hint of pepper. The finish displays purity and strength rarely found in Pinot Gris bringing along all its subtle and delicate character, with lasting minerality on the palate.”

The Winemaker
A native of Burgundy, France, Stéphane Vivier’s old-world sensibilities are ideally suited for his role as winemaker at our Anderson Valley Estate. With degrees in viticulture and enology from Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, Stéphane cultivated his vineyard and cellar skills at Pommard, Meursault, and Chassagne-Montrachet, before working as a young winemaker in Switzerland, New Zealand, and the Russian River.
Prior to Long Meadow Ranch, Stéphane was the winemaker for Hyde de Villaine, famed co-director of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Aubert de Villaine and Larry Hyde’s partnership winery. He maintains his position as consulting winemaker today, as well as overseeing his own label, Vivier, with his wife.
The Winery
In existence as a farm since the 1800's, LMR has been owned by the Hall family since the 1980s, dedicated to sustainability and respect for the envrionment. Today they run a restaurant, organic gardens, grow and press olives, raise cattler, chickens and horses, teach classes in cooking and wine and farm over 2000 acres of grapes spread across three counties. Their slogan is "Excellence through responsible farming".
Though LMR is larger than most of the producers I curate, I included them here as a standard for Anderson Valley pinot. Production of the Anderson Valley pinot is small relative to their other bottlings and may be difficult to find outside Northern California.
