The WineThis wine is 100% Bracchetto - a black-skinned grape found mostly in Piemonte and capable of producing a sweet (usually fizzy) wine or, rarely, as a dry wine such as this. The wine is known for grippy tannins that can be off-putting for many.
To avoid tannic overdose, Malabaila employed soft-pressing of selected whole clusters and used temperature-controlled, stainless steel fermentation to preserve the grape's high-toned aromatics. The nose is enthusiastic and features floral cherry blossoms and raspberries. These aromatics hint at a sweet wine, but on the palate the wine surprises with refined and soft tannins. I've never had a Brachetto like this one!
Pair with complex dishes such as risotto, artichokes and event slightly spicy dishes.
The Winery
The recorded history of the Malabailas coming to Roero dates back to the late 13th century, when they arrived from Asti. Some 700 years later, visitors can see the family's castle, which they took over from the Roero brothers in the early 1500's, and the tool house dating back to 1700, which is now where the Malabaila's produce almost 10,000 cases per year.
Each bottle holds a piece of the family's many centuries of winemaking history.
