The Wine

Aging this wine in smaller barrels than the Ruby style of port makes it age more quickly, which means the port lover need wait for less time to enjoy it! A darker-hued wine than one would assume, given the style, I find it is a delicious bridge between the young and fruity "Ruby" style and the much-desired vintage port after years of quiet repose.

Visitors to Portugal's Douro region have enjoyed wines such as this in situ - that is to say, served slightly chilled and with nuts and dried fruit before the meal, or after the meal as a transition to dessert or as one dons the smoking jacket, if such a thing is done anymore.
