The Wine

Aromas of red cherries and blueberries with earth and spice notes of dried oregano, white pepper and black tea. An engaging, seductive texture is supported with a backbone of oak and finely-grained tannins.

The wine is made using fruit from the winery's estate vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills and the nearby John Sebastiano vineyard. Members of our Pinot Selections club recently enjoyed another wine made from Sebastiano's fruit - remember the 2015 Byron Pinot??? Man, that stuff went fast! This will too, I predict.

The combination of fruit from these two different vineyards includes seven different clonal varieties, a splash of stems in the fermentation, and the cool nature of the 2019 vintage results in a sign post for elegant Sta Rita Hills pinot. A balance of California's new-world ripeness and the old-world elegance. Very polished and silky tannins lead to a spicy fruit-driven finish. An incredible value.

The Winery

To get this wine for you, our shop had to be approved by the winery, complete with industry references. I presume it was mostly to see if we pay our bills on time, but I like to think it was also an affirmation of the quality of our portfolio (Eric, if this isn't true, let me live with this small deception?!)

The winery is owned by the Wagners, John and Gillian, and are assisted by a young and talented winemaker, Wynne Solomon, and their grower, Michael Anderson. Sales & Marketing is managed by the capable Eric Grant, an East Coast refugee after a successful business career.
