CUSTOMER QUESTIONS
The Wine
The wine is a 50/50 blend of Lambrusco Grasparossa and Lambrusco Salamino (2 of the 8 Lambrusco DOC regions) , resulting in a perfectly balanced Lambrusco rosato. Completely dry and lightly earthy, the wine bursts with delicious fruit flavors. Insane value in a sparkling wine.
A regional pioneer of natural farming practices, Dario Rota produces refreshing Lambruscos. His innovations in organic farming, with lower yields and sustainability at the fore, have brought Rota new recognition for Lambrusco exactly as it should be: unpretentious and perfect for a simple meal or an aperitivo of fried Gnocchi and Mortadella, or a simple accompaniment to your favorite appetizer course, and then have the wine accompany you to the table afterwords. Food friendly!
11.5% ABV. Drink now through next year.
The Winery
The Emilia-Romagna is one of Italy's largest wine-growing regions, and was once known for low-priced, every-day wine. Today's younger generation of growers have developed a concerted effort to raise the quality and reputation of the region, and this is a prime example (also see Pappiano) of high-quality production from this region. Most of Italy is mountainous or at least hilly; Emilia-Romagna is an exception, with the Po river running East to West, and alluvial plains providing unique soil types for its vineyards. Of course, valleys come with mountains too, and the region has its share of hillside vineyards too!
Cantina Rota was founded by Roberta Rota during the 1920's in Castellazo in the Po Valley. The subsequent generations of the Rota Family have kept the winemaking tradition alive for over a century. The winery is currently managed by Dario, Roberta's grandson. Today, Cantina Rota is one of the few producers with a private winery. They manage every aspect of this wine's production, from growing the grapes to producing and marketing the wine globally.
The winery is self-sufficient and sustainable, powered by their own solar panels and their sate of the art biomass system for wood recovery which sufficient to meat the entire heating needs of the winery.
BTW, should you choose to visit the winery you'll find it located just a short drive East on the A1 from Parma, famous for it's dried ham and it cheeses, or a short drive West from Modena, famous for its Balsamic vinegars and its car factories (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati et al!)
