The Wine

(Excuse me for not writing in iambic pentameter!) Made in a light, lemon-zest-atop-lemon-curd (Chablis) style. A slight note of herbs and salinity on the finish and... is that a hint of pineapple I got there for a minute? Fleeting. This is a food-friendly wine that's also perfect for that happy hour when you don't want to assault your body with high-alcohol cocktails (which, for me, is all of them!)

The majority of the wine was tank fermented so the finished wine could highlight the crisp purity that Chardonnay can bring to the game. But a layer of creamy complexity was brought to the fold by using a Champagne yeast to gave the wine a creaminess that balances the wine's natural zestiness. At the same time a small percentage of the wine was fermented in barrel for that touch of round complexity brought by the micro-oxygenation that occurs in an imperceptibly pourus oak barrel! All told, the wine showcases pure Chardonnay fruit with a subtle essence of oak spice on the finish.

The Winery

I get it. It doesn't seem fair that one person succeeds as an actor and then turns to another, equally challenging career, and succeeds at THAT as well. But wait, there's more - his partner is the talented, world-renowned choral conductor, Elena Sharkova. Some people lead a charmed life!

Such is the life of Anthony Craig, who left England to pursue acting in Los Angeles before taking a breather in bucolic Santa Cruz Mountains to work for a spell at the famed David Bruce Winery. It was there he caught the wine bug, burnished his winemaking chops, and eventually became the head winemaker. He worked there for years before forming Sonnet in 2002.
