The WineThis wine needs some air, so let it breathe! Decanting is recommended.
With sufficient air, the wine's initial hints of onion and its slight spritz yield to pleasant fruit and spice notes. Fruit = red plums, black cherry and orange peel, complimented by earthy notes and hints of warm leather. A medium-bodied wine with grippy tannins that lead to a pleasant finish. Drink now through 2025.
Pair with with rich first courses featuring tomato sauce or typical tuscan dishes such as ribollita soup, roasts, red meats, rabbit, or seasoned sheep's cheeses.

The Winery
This is a family-owned winery with significant holdings and a history that dates back to the 700s. The winery produced their first Brunello in 1966 by the father of the current owner, and is recognized as one of the historical estates in Montalcino.
Rosso di Montalcino is a category for red wines made from the Sagiovese grape, just like their bigger siblings from Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Rosso di Montalcino generally comes from younger vines that will, someday, grow up to be Brunello, if they can prove their stuff. Meanwhile wine lovers get to enjoy a noble wine at far more affordable prices.
