The WineAn aromatic white wine with mouth-watering acidity, this is not just a great and versatile food wine, it ages for years, if you care to. Look for aromas with floral and fruit dominating (apricot, banana) floating atop a current of minerality and an enticing salinity on the finish.
The origin of the grape's name is the subject of conflicting tales - one says it was named after the sheep who would eat from the vines during their annual migration (Pecora is the Italian word for sheep), another says it was named because of it is the perfect pairing for the cheese of the same name. I'm sure there are one or two other tales as well - feel free to use whichever you find most interesting when you share this wine with friends!
Pairings
As mentioned, this wine is a perfect match for the Italian cheese of the same name, particularly with some dried apricots and a drizzle of honey. But grab the bottle when it's time for dinner, as this wine pairs well with a wide variety of savory dishes. Some ideas worth trying - Thai food, Fried calamari / fritto misto / tempura, spaghetti alla carbonara, shrimp scampi and a classic seafood risotto.
The Winery
(Dave's note - to picture where this winery is located, Abruzzo forms the calf of the 'boot' that is Italy. So - upper-middle on the Eastern side.)
Terraviva is a family-owned, certified organic and biodynamic farm near Teramo, Abruzzo. The winery's tag line - "Vini Vista Mare" - reflects the ocean views enjoyed while standing in their vineyard or hospitality facility. Their vineyards benefit from both the cold winds blowing down from the Gran Sasso mountains and the mitigating effects of the Adriatic Sea.
Winemaking is essential / low-intervention: just estate-grown, organic & biodynamic grapes and natural yeast fermentations. Only minimal amounts of sulfites are used at bottling. All plots are harvested separately yielding wines of crisp, clear varietal character, vibrant freshness and remarkable balance.
