This wine is best when served at ~45 degrees so the wine's richness can show through - easily achieved by removing from the refrigerator for 20 minutes before serving.
The Wine
This wine is bright pink with hues of salmon. Artfully blended from Cabernet Franc, Côt and Gamay to achieve a delightful, crisp wine that we enjoy year-round. Spicy nose of red currants, strawberries and raspberries.
Love the tension between fruit, acidity and earth that one finds in good wines of the Loire? You'll find it in spades here! A huge hit shortly after its release.
The Winery
Thierry Delaunay’s 21 hectares of vineyards are situated on the banks of the Cher, 50 kilometers east of Tours. It is the epicenter of the Touraine region. His vineyards surround the winery, and have been cultivated by 5 generations of the same family.
But it was not until 1971 that the Delaunay's bottled their first estate wines; prior to then they'd sold their grapes to other producers. But each year since then, the Delaunay family has improved their wine quality by marrying local traditions with technology, as it made sense.
Thierry has created the “Le Grand Ballon” brand as a Vin de Pays de La Loire, offering exceptional value in the sumptuous, refreshing style of classic Loire wines.
Bucket List Idea - Visit the estate, grab a bottle of Le Grand Ballon, and take it up in one of the many hot air balloons that float over the Delaunay vineyards!
