The WineLook for aromas of Bing cherries and bramble fruits (blackberry and raspbery) with ground white peppercorns and a lingering notes of smoke and allspice. In general, this is a wine perfectly designed for enjoying anywhere, any time and with most any thing!
It's rare for such a wine to see any oak, but this one has - 24 months in barrel, of which 20% were new (adding notes of vanilla and spice as well as a soft roundness) and 80% used barrels (not to add flavor or aromatics, just to soften the wine to make it read for near-term enjoyment).
An undiscovered gem delivering great value at this price point.
The Winery
The Sierra Foothills was famous in the 1800's as the place where gold was discovered - the event that triggered the California gold rush in 1849 (the "forty niners" was the nickname for those seeking their fortune in gold long before it was a football team!)
Today the area is home to over 200 wineries and more than 6,000 acres of grape vines. The Ursa Vineyards winery can be found close to the old gold mining town of Placerville.
